Caroline Marshall

BSc (Hons), Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys, European Patent Attorney, Member of the Institute of Physics, Member of UNION.

Caroline read physics at Loughborough University and was a Patent Examiner in the UK Patent Office (now the UK IPO) handling applications in the areas of textile technologies, downhole mining and oilfield equipment and optical devices. Caroline joined Potter Clarkson in 1999 and became a partner in 2010.

Caroline deals with patent and design matters within the Designs and Engineering Group encompassing a number of disciplines including logistics, power distribution, automotive engineering, mining equipment and medical devices, and has continued to develop an expertise in textile technologies. In the textiles area in particular Caroline leads several of our key client teams.

As well as having extensive experience of prosecuting UK and European patent applications, and representing clients in hearings before the European Patent Office, Caroline has been involved in litigation in the UK, Canada and Australia, and has considerable experience in patent and design ownership and licence recordal issues.

UK IPO Calls for Evidence in Designs Consultation Process

The UK Intellectual Property Office has called for those having an interest in the industrial design field to comment on the relationship between design and innovation.

The consultation has resulted from a recommendation in the Hargreaves Review of IP and Growth of the establishment of a legal framework that positively supports innovation in design-related industries.
