Ian Stevens

Consultant - Patent Attorney

Ian has over 30 years’ experience of patent prosecution and strategy, working with small, medium and large companies and academic institutions ranging from spin-outs to multinationals.

He has particular expertise in oppositions and has handled over 200 opposition and appeal hearings before the European Patent Office (EPO). Ian has acted as an expert witness in national litigation proceedings and has been involved in carrying out a technology audit at a leading UK university. 

Ian worked in research for a multinational chemical company before entering the patent profession in 1990. He worked in private practice in London and Bristol before joining Potter Clarkson in 1999 and became a partner in 2001.

Education

Ian achieved a first-class master’s degree in chemistry at the University of Oxford (Keble College).
