Materials Research Exchange 2020

Our IP specialists will be at this year’s Materials Research Exchange to provide their legal expertise coupled with expert materials knowledge to help industry players with their IP practices and questions.

Regarding the challenges faced by the materials industry, Jason Teng, partner and patent attorney at Potter Clarkson, comments:

In the materials industry, we constantly see innovation in the form of new applications of existing materials and the creation of new breakthrough materials, such as graphene and metamaterials, across a wide range of industries including automotive, electronics, food and life sciences.  This has the potential to solve problems affecting our society, such as cost, performance, reproducibility and sustainability. Materials innovators should be rewarded for their time and effort in developing these solutions, and the way to achieve this is by ensuring that their commercial plans are properly aligned with IP actions and strategies tailored to their business."

Jason Teng and Craig Brownlie will be leading a masterclass on IP and R&D tax credit in the Executive Centre at 1.30 pm on the first day of the event. With a strong focus on materials technology, the masterclass will cover:

  • Aligning your IP strategy with your R&D and commercialisation process; Identifying and handling IP opportunities and risks at each stage; Making full use of your budget and time resources; and R&D tax relief consideration in the commercialisation process.

They will be joined by Peter Mumford and Alice Mortiboy at Stand 63 throughout the event. You can meet them to discuss any IP-related queries, including ways of identifying and securing IP rights and best practices for dealing with confidential information and trade secrets.
