Potter Clarkson underlines firmwide growth with new hires

Following a period of continued growth, leading European intellectual property law firm, Potter Clarkson has made two new senior hires to join its respected team of IP professionals.

This month sees the firm welcome senior associate, Louise Tottie to its growing Stockholm operation and senior associate, Mark Nichols to the litigation and licensing team in London.

An experienced, multilingual European and Swedish Patent Attorney and with a PhD in Organic Chemistry, Louise specialises in chemical and life science inventions, such as pharmaceutical formulations and polymers. She worked for ten years as an organic chemist for the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca before joining the patent profession in 2003 at the company ́s intellectual property department.

Louise joins from Valea, where she spent several years as a patent attorney.

Mark is a talented intellectual property solicitor with a focus on IP litigation and trade mark and brand strategy and prosecution. He has experience of litigation across the full spectrum of intellectual property rights from pre-action to trial, as well as trade mark opposition and office action work at the UK and EU IPOs.

Mark joins the firm from Harbottle and Lewis, where he was an IP litigation associate for close to three years. His appointment comes hot on the heels of the arrival of Mark Kramer who recently joined the firm to head up the London litigation and licensing team.

Commenting on the news, Steve Smith, managing partner of the firm, says:

The pandemic has undoubtedly been a huge challenge for many businesses, including those in IP, but we have continued our ambitious growth plans throughout this period, acting on some of the biggest European IP matters in the market and recruiting stellar talent to the firm.

“Our latest joiners are no exception, bringing with them an array of experience and capabilities to our growing teams in Stockholm and London.”

Simon Curtis, who heads up the firm’s Stockholm operation, adds:

This is a hugely exciting time for our growing Swedish operation with the arrival of such a talented and experienced attorney. Louise will further enhance our offering to innovative businesses across Sweden and adds to our deep expertise across the chemical and life sciences fields.

“Our expanding team here in Stockholm has gone from strength to strength in recent years with successive expansions of our offices, a string of senior hires and some impressive client wins, putting us on a firm trajectory for further consistent growth.”
