Andrew Argyle, Potter Clarkson’s Practice Director, has been appointed to the Board of non-executive Directors of PAMIA at its recent AGM. PAMIA is a mutual insurance company serving trade mark and patent attorneys in private practice in the UK and Ireland.

Established in 1989, PAMIA now provides professional indemnity insurance to over 300 firms, accounting for around 95% of UK and Irish attorneys in private practice. Potter Clarkson was one of the founding firms.

The mutual is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and Prudential Regulation Authority. It is controlled by the board of non-executive Directors which is elected by the Members. The Directors have appointed Thomas Miller Professional Indemnity, an independent firm with no financial interest in PAMIA’s business, to manage PAMIA’s day-to-day affairs and advise the Board on insurance and regulatory issues.

Each of the Directors serves on one of PAMIA’s committees.  Andrew has joined the Rates and Reinsurance Committee.

“I was delighted to be approached for the appointment,” commented Andrew. “I was told that the Members were very interested in finding new board members who could offer greater diversity of expertise than in the past.  My previous roles as a partner in two major solicitor firms, including being managing partner, coupled with having been CEO of a major barristers’ chambers in Leeds, seems to have attracted some attention.  I was very interested in assisting what is a superb Mutual that serves this profession so well.”
