Potter Clarkson host high level forum with Lord Maude, Minister for Trade and Investment
22 February 2016
We were delighted to be selected by the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce and Emma McClarkin MEP to host an important forum on the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (“TTIP”).
L-R: Andrew Argyle, Emma McClarkin MEP, Rt Hon Lord Maude, Christina Sevilla and Colin Baker
The forum, chaired by Emma McClarkin, was an opportunity for specially invited East Midlands’ companies to learn about the TTIP and to offer views and opinions on it. The two principal guests were the Rt Hon Lord Maude of Horsham, Minister of State for Trade and Investment, and Christina Sevilla, a senior US official who was en route to Brussells for round 12 of the EU/USA talks.
The TTIP promises to be the largest trade agreement ever, re-writing the trade rules between the USA and the EU which together account for some 46% of the world’s GDP. Christina reported that the White House was keen to see agreement reached this year to help cap the Obama administration’s term in office.
Alongside local companies, the forum was also attended by senior representatives from the UKTI and the East Midlands Chamber.
Colin Baker, our Managing Partner, and Andrew Argyle, our Practice Director, also attended.
