Manufacturing Advisory Service: financial support for SME’s seeking patent protection

13 May 2015

Patent, trade mark and design firm Potter Clarkson LLP is now a registered consultant for the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS). MAS, which is part of the UK Government’s Business Growth Service, provides financial support to promote growth in England’s SME manufacturing sector. Funding, from £300 to £3000, is available on up to a 50% matching fund basis for a wide range of different projects, including securing intellectual property protection.
To be eligible for support, your company must be a manufacturer registered in the UK and based in England, with fewer than 250 employees and a turnover of less than £40 million.
If you consider that your company meets these criteria and are interested in benefiting from this support you should contact MAS before embarking on a new project such as securing patent protection for a new invention.  MAS can be contacted online at their website.  MAS also provides a helpline on 0300 303 0034, which is open Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm, and can be contacted by email at
MAS state that their funding process is quick and simple, with only a two-page form to complete, and that typical grant applications are signed off in under a week.  So far, 97% of participants have said that the service is a good value for money/time investment.

If you have any questions about protecting your business’s intellectual property please contact Michael Linehan.
