East Midlands Finalists named in Medilink Awards
Innovation Day 2013, Thursday 13th June 11.30am - 10.30pm, Radisson Blu Hotel, East Midlands Airport.

Thirteen companies have been selected as finalists for a Medilink East Midlands award in this year's competition to find the best in healthcare, bioscience, biotechnology and medical device businesses. These awards are held annually by Medilink East Midlands, the region's life science industry association, whose aim is to help companies establish, develop and grow.
The five award categories are for best business Start Up, Innovation, Partnership with the NHS, Export and Outstanding Achievement.

The Start Up award is sponsored by biosciences incubation services provider BioCity Nottingham. The finalists are:
Aurelia Bioscience, the Nottingham-based contract research organisation started by former AstraZeneca senior scientists;
Medical product design company Francis Lamont Innovations Ltd of Hathersage.
TerrainHopper, off-road mobility vehicle design and manufacturers from Lincolnshire.

The Innovation award is sponsored by Potter Clarkson. Finalists are:
Derbyshire-based Oxford PharmaScience which makes medicines better, safer and easier to take.
Renfrew group from Leicester for the design and supply of a new Blood Donor Chair in association with the NHS Blood Transfusion procurement team.
TerrainHopper, off-road mobility vehicle design and manufacturers from Lincolnshire.

Partnership with the NHS is sponsored by the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (AHSN). The finalists are:
Nottingham-based Stanningley Pharma working to improve patient care in renal services.
Spirit Healthcare Ltd of Leicester, supplier of blood glucose monitors to help the NHS improve patient management and reduce hospital admissions for COPD sufferers.
Daventry-based B&V Group for working with the NHS to ensure high-level water supply quality.

Export award is sponsored by Shakespeares. The finalists are:
Nottingham-based Scientific Laboratory Supplies Ltd, international suppliers of laboratory equipment, consumables and chemicals.
Quadralene group, Derby manufacturers of specialised cleaning detergents and disinfectants into the healthcare, dental, food, automotive and micro-electronic engineering markets.
AdamsonJones IP Ltd of Nottingham for its full range of intellectual property services.

Outstanding Achievement award is sponsored by Morningside Pharmaceuticals Ltd. The finalists are:
Nottingham-based Scientific Laboratory Supplies Ltd, international suppliers of laboratory equipment, consumables and chemicals.
Healthcare Print and Packaging, the ‘One-Stop-Shop' for the design and supply of specialist packaging materials based in Nottingham.
iQudos Ltd, the spin-out from Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for its Clinical Decision Support Software, an expert system which supports the management of long- term chronic disease conditions in the community.

Dr Darren Clark, chief executive of Medilink East Midlands, says: "These companies, short-listed for this year's Medilink awards, demonstrate that innovative ideas, design and high-value manufacturing are alive and thriving in the region. As finalists they have shown themselves to be capable of translating new ideas into commercial products with a ready market. Between them, they are creating much-needed jobs and income for the local area. In several cases they provide significant savings for the NHS, and all can demonstrate a positive impact on patient health and wellbeing."

The Awards ceremony takes place on the evening following the ERDF supported Innovation Conference. This year's theme, ‘Revolutionising Healthcare -What part will you play?' has already attracted top speakers including Professor Hilary Thomas, Partner & Clinical Lead - Healthcare & Life Sciences Advisory & Global Centre of Excellence, KPMG; Sue Middleton, Vice-President Corporate and UK Government, GSK and Peter Homa CBE, Chief Executive, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

This year's master of ceremonies and awards presenter is science writer and broadcaster Vivienne Parry OBE, whose voice is well known to BBC Radio 4 listeners where she presents many programmes on science and medicine.
