Colin has over twenty five years' experience securing patent protection for inventions in the chemical and medical device fields. Particular areas of interest include personal care compositions, foodstuffs, packaging, refrigerants, petrochemicals, metallurgy and medical devices including stents, catheters, heart valves and dental equipment. Colin has travelled extensively on business, primarily to the USA.

Colin studied chemistry at the University of Bristol. On leaving university, he joined a research team in a large multinational corporation as a metabolism chemist before training to become a patent attorney.
Colin joined the patent profession in 1986 and has gained widespread professional experience from working both in industry and private practice. He worked initially for the Ministry of Defence for three years, and then Unilever for six and a half years, both in the UK and Holland. Subsequently he worked for Withers & Rogers in London for two and a half years. Colin joined Potter Clarkson in 1997, and became a partner in 1999. In 2013 he joined the Board of Management, and in 2014 he became Managing Partner.
He has lectured for CEIPI, and on behalf of The European Patent Office on the patenting of chemical inventions. As a key specialisation, Colin has extensive experience of proceedings before the European Patent Office Opposition Division and Boards of Appeal, having handled around 150 cases.
