How We Live Our Values: Collaboration

As a consultant, I see my role as primarily supporting our clients’ best interests - proactively and with guidance that’s truly valuable to them. If I can help clients understand not only the literal meaning of my advice but also the reasoning behind it, they’ll find it far more useful. Likewise, my understanding of each client’s business and technology is fundamental to giving meaningful support, and it also makes the work so much more fun!

In My Own Words

The IP landscape is highly complex and constantly changing. It’s a profession where you never stop learning. Add to that our clients’ evolving business models, markets and priorities, and you quickly realise there is no room to stand still or rely on what you think you already know. To me, that’s one of the best things about this job and why so many people stay in the profession throughout their careers.

AI, for example, is likely to change our industry in radical ways. It will help and challenge us in equal measure. I recently tested arguments over email with a client contact or so I thought! It turned out I was speaking to Claude (AI)!

That’s why, in addition to being supportive, the qualities I find most useful for tackling everyday professional challenges are curiosity and humility.
