Nancie supports the development and prosecution of patent portfolios for a diverse range of clients, from early-stage companies to large, established corporations. She earned a distinction in her master’s research, which focused on sustainable biocontrol agents, and has a particular interest in agritech, aquaculture and immunology.
Nancie primarily drafts patent applications and develops response strategies to patent examination reports.
During her degree in biological sciences, Nancie studied multiple technical disciplines and explored these further as president of the St Hugh’s Biosciences Society and ambassador for her university’s biology department.
Before joining Potter Clarkson, Nancie worked as an analyst at a biotech consultancy specialising in cosmetics, food and agriculture.
Drawing on this experience and her insight into the challenges these sectors face, she now supports the commercialisation of biotech innovation as a trainee patent attorney. Her desire to help companies grow by leveraging their science led her to pursue a career in intellectual property.

How We Live Our Values: Collaboration
I’ve always wanted a career centred on supporting innovation and biological science. Every day, as a trainee patent attorney at Potter Clarkson, I use my technical expertise in biology to help translate clients’ research and ideas into protected assets.
I particularly enjoy working on cross-disciplinary innovations, such as applying AI to biological systems, where I learn from and contribute to a team with a broad range of expertise. Sharing knowledge across the team helps us approach problems from different angles and deliver better outcomes for clients.
In My Own Words
When I first came across the patent profession, I knew immediately that it would allow me to apply my strengths and interests in a way that could make a positive impact.
I feel lucky to meet people working at the cutting edge of their fields and to learn about the unexpected and novel ways they are tackling challenges in areas from healthcare to food supply and sustainability.
