Ray has over 25 years' experience of patent prosecution in a wide range of technical fields such as telecommunication systems, networks, storage devices, cryptography, medical physics and automation of business processes, and is recognised as one of the world’s leading patent professionals.

His track record includes representing many national and multinational clients in various areas of medical device technology, including cardiac rhythm management systems, resuscitation equipment, ultrasound systems, MRI systems and implantable devices, and in semiconductor/ optical device technologies. He also has 15 years' experience in patenting electrochemical fuel cell technologies.   

In addition, Ray has substantial experience of opposition proceedings at the European Patent Office in these and other technical fields. While he works with companies of all sizes, he has supported many successful start-up companies to define and develop patenting strategies and new patent portfolios. 

Prior to joining Potter Clarkson in 1990, he worked for a major electronics company in research, development and production of semiconductor devices and integrated circuits. He became a partner in 1998 and is a former member of the board of management.
