Esmé Swindells

Esmé is a UK and European patent attorney specialising in the pharmaceutical and chemical sectors. She brings a dual perspective from working with both start-ups and investors to shape IP strategies that support commercial and investment goals.

Esmé advises clients in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries on drafting and prosecuting patent applications, as well as preparing oppositions and conducting freedom-to-operate (FTO) and due diligence investigations. She works with a variety of businesses, from start-ups preparing for investment to established companies managing large patent portfolios.

She has extensive experience in managing and prosecuting global patent portfolios, including applications before the European Patent Office (EPO) and in key jurisdictions such as Australia, Canada, China, India, Japan and the US. Esmé works closely with clients to align their innovation with their commercial objectives, helping shape IP strategies that support long-term value.

In addition to working with companies to secure IP rights, she regularly supports investors with due diligence on potential investments. This allows her to advise start-ups on what investors are looking for and how to prepare effectively for funding rounds.
