Partner - Patent Attorney

With extensive expertise in the field of design and engineering, Deborah specialises in drafting patent specifications, prosecuting patent applications through to grant, managing patent and registered design portfolios that include foreign patent families, and advising on patent and registered design strategy.

Deborah especially enjoys working with start-ups and scale-ups by helping them to identify and protect their IP to secure investment. She is also accomplished in patent searches, invention spotting, and carrying out IP audits.

Deborah is the head of the Scottish office as well as the space tech team, and is often found attending and speaking at events around Glasgow and Edinburgh, for example, hosting workshops helping founders to get their IP “investor ready” and educating investors on IP due diligence and freedom-to-operate.

Deborah is also the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (“EDI”) Partner at Potter Clarkson as well as Chair of the firm’s Inclusivity Group. The Group is committed to helping drive the necessary change to ensure that Potter Clarkson provides a highly supportive, inclusive, and stimulating workplace for all its people. As EDI Partner, Deborah reports findings and updates from the Group to the Exec Board throughout the year, therefore ensuring that EDI remains a key point on the Board’s agenda.

Patent and design matters in a range of engineering fields, including manufacturing, wind turbine technology, textile and garment design, drug delivery and other medical devices, and automotive engine and transmission assembly

Education

Deborah obtained a master’s degree in product design engineering from the University of Glasgow and Glasgow School of Art.
