Jason works across a wide spectrum of industrial design and engineering subject matter, using his broad technical expertise and IP consultancy skills to advise clients on all phases of their business from production to end product to commercialisation.
His clients range from start-ups seeking investment to SMEs needing a trusted IP advisor to multinationals requiring all-encompassing IP strategy and management. His work includes, amongst others, drafting and prosecution of patent and design applications, patent and design portfolio management, and advising on freedom to operate issues.
Having particular expertise in advanced materials, he regularly works with companies in this sector, including graphene and 2D materials companies within the Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC). His wider interests include 3D printing, additive manufacturing, metallurgy and nanotechnology.
Jason is part of the firm's Asian business development committee, with a focus on China, South Korea and Japan amongst others. Originally from Malaysia, he brings both cultural and business insight to the table to help businesses bridge the gap between Asia and Europe. He frequently attends IP seminars and business networking events throughout the UK to meet others with interest in developing Asia-UK business relations.
Prior to joining Potter Clarkson in 2008, Jason worked as a postdoctoral research associate in the fields of microengineering and nanotechnology, principally in the areas of Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) and focused ion beam systems.
