Jonathan is head of renewals at Potter Clarkson, with over a decade of experience managing people and operations in the legal profession.
Jonathan oversees the daily operational requirements of the renewals department. He works closely with clients, suppliers, attorneys and internal business functions to ensure all aspects of intellectual property (IP) renewals are handled smoothly, including portfolio management, cost estimates and payments. His role is crucial in ensuring client satisfaction throughout the renewals process.
He brings valuable experience from previous roles at the Crown Prosecution Service and a leading barristers’ chambers, where he developed his people management skills. His background in legal services and his ability to work effectively with a wide range of professionals have been instrumental to his role.
Jonathan is a member of the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (CITMA) and the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA). He has completed extensive management training and is a qualified Mental Health First Aider, reflecting his commitment to both professional and personal development.

In My Own Words
I never imagined I would become head of renewals, but looking back, it feels like a natural progression. My career began in the legal profession, where I developed my people management skills and gained experience working with a wide range of professionals. My time at the Crown Prosecution Service and a leading barristers’ chambers gave me invaluable insight into the complexities of legal operations.
A defining moment for me was realising the importance of intellectual property renewals in protecting clients’ innovations and investments. That realisation sparked my interest in IP portfolio management and led me to pursue a role where I could make a significant impact. Joining the renewals team allowed me to combine my legal knowledge with my passion for client satisfaction.
Today, I find immense satisfaction in helping to ensure the smooth running of the renewals department. Every day, I liaise with clients, suppliers, attorneys and colleagues to help manage IP portfolios efficiently. It is rewarding to see the positive impact this has for our clients and to know that my efforts contribute to their success.
