Tony specialises in patent matters relating to pharmaceutical inventions, while also working with clients in the broader area of chemistry, such as in the area of materials chemistry. Passionate about supporting innovation in the sector, he works closely with clients to align their IP strategy with regulatory demands.

Tony advises on patent matters across the pharmaceutical sector, including chemical entities, pharmaceutical formulations, drug delivery technologies, new medical uses and diagnostic kits, as well as chemical processes and novel materials.

His clients range from university spin-outs to large multinational companies, giving him insight into the needs of businesses at every stage of development. His experience includes patent drafting, European and global prosecution, portfolio management, patentability and freedom-to-operate (FTO) analysis, due diligence and representing clients in European oppositions and appeals. He has handled numerous applications for supplementary protection certificates (SPCs) across Europe. Tony is also a qualified Patent Attorney Litigator with experience in UK High Court litigation.

Alongside his patent practice, Tony advises clients through Potter Clarkson’s SafeGuard consultancy service, helping businesses identify and audit their trade secrets, assess the current level of protection, and implement the legal and compliance frameworks needed to safeguard them.

Although primarily based in Nottingham, he regularly works from the firm's Stockholm and Copenhagen offices and has delivered talks and seminars on a wide range of topics to audiences across Europe, the US, India and beyond.
