Following recent expansion in Copenhagen and London, Potter Clarkson is delighted to announce the opening of a new office in Stockholm.
Situated in the heart of the city at Vasagatan 7, the new office represents a significant increase in our presence in the city, and will provide a platform for further growth of our local service offering.
We have worked with companies in Scandinavia for over 30 years and have established ourselves as a trusted advisor to clients of all sizes, who repeatedly tell us they value our tailored advice and resolutely commercial focus.
Recent years have seen us expand significantly in Scandinavia, with openings in Lund and Stockholm in 2016 and most recently, Copenhagen earlier this year. Each of these locations are ideally placed to enhance the service we provide to companies in multiple sectors across the region.
The Stockholm opening team is being led by Simon Curtis, a partner and patent attorney in our Chemistry team, who relocates from Nottingham to take the reins in January 2019. Simon is being joined by Associate Chris Cadman, also a patent attorney in our Chemistry team and the team is looking for local recruits.
Commenting on the news, Simon said:
“In recent years, our team has been dedicated to visiting our ever-expanding client base in Scandinavia, about half of which is presently in the Stockholm region. Their workload has grown quickly so the natural next step for us was to establish a full-time presence here in Stockholm. This move gives us the ideal platform to grow our presence in Sweden further and serve its hugely vibrant community of new and rapidly growing technology businesses.”
As part of the move, we are also delighted to announce that Jesper Sellin, attorney-at-law, joins as a Partner to complete the opening team. Jesper will bring a wealth of experience in commercial and contentious IP matters to the role as well as in trademark portfolio and brand management. His career began at the Swedish Patents and Registration Office (PRV) followed by a period as an in-house attorney for the Pharmacia/Pfizer Global IP group.
Potter Clarkson Managing Partner, Steve Smith, added:
“We are delighted to welcome Jesper to Potter Clarkson, where he joins the growing team of professional IP advisors in our new Stockholm office. Jesper brings a wealth of experience advising and representing clients, both in Sweden and internationally, in relation to all aspects of intellectual property. His commercially-focussed approach and expertise in Swedish IP law will enable us to enhance, still further, the levels of support and advice we can offer to our many clients throughout the Nordic region. Welcome to the team, Jesper!”
Recent successes the team has achieved for clients include:
- Securing, then successfully defending on appeal, European patents for AstraZeneca’s blockbuster, Nexium®, following oppositions by 13 generics.
- Securing worldwide patents for Alligator Bioscience’s ADC-1013, the subject of a recent license deal with Jansen worth up to US$695m
- Securing US patent protection for Orexo’s key product, Zubsolv®. Patents thereafter successfully defended at US Appeal Court following challenge by generic, Actavis
The Potter Clarkson team will be attending various conferences and meetings in Stockholm in the coming months and sharing more details about the new offices and our future expansion plans.
